The Bend in Our Road

a few years ago
Chad and i led a small group
of amazing high school students

during our time together
we read and discussed the book
Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God

we talked
and prayed a lot about
what it means
to move out of our comfort zone
and into the path of the Holy Spirit

it was an bur that niggled
at the back of our minds
time and again

but for the most part
our lives trundled along
in much the same patterns
as always

whilst we continued to feel
uncomfortable
with our comfort

unbeknownst to us

the Holy Spirit
was moving and preparing our hearts
for something unexpected

just what is it?

our fellowship, Pathway Church
has been planning to open
an off-site venue
about 30 minutes from our main campus
in a place called Moon Township

(for those of you unfamiliar
with the Pittsburgh area
we have lots of fun names 'round these parts
like Mars
Cranberry
Aliquippa
Slippery Rock, and a few more)

this new venture
has been in the planning stages
for about 3 years

and just a few months ago
we received the call
for Chad to be the host pastor

to say that this call
came out of the great blue yonder
might be an understatement

and we certainly did a double take

who
us?

really?

are you sure?

we've been out of full-time ministry
for 7 years
and were feeling pretty

comfortable

in our current stage of life

but the Lord had something different in mind

and once we got over the surprise factor
and started to pray and ask His will
we began to get excited
about the opportunity before us

to minister to people in a new way

to help spread the gospel
in a new place

to be in at the beginning
of a new fellowship

excited
uncomfortable
expectant
humbled

scared

excited

those words certainly describe us

stepping off the solid ground of familiar
and into the great wide open unknown of faith

if you are a pray-er
i would ask you to be praying for us
in this new endeavor

that we would be smack dab
in the center of the Lord's will for our church
and for our family

that the Holy Spirit would be moving
on the hearts and minds of the folks
who will come be part of the Moon venue

that the Holy Spirit
would multiply our time

Chad will continue working
at his existing full time job
whilst adding the hours at Pathway

that our children would be excited
to do this ministry as a family

if you are local
and searching for a fellowship to call home
i would ask you to pray about becoming a part
of new launch to Moon
(i couldn't resist)

  3. God's timing is always perfect. I will be praying with and for you as He places you into your new position. Believe me, I completely understand how you feel. After quite a few semi-comfortable years on the back pew of my church, I have been called back into full time ministry as the Pastor of Women starting this January. This last Sunday I walked around with what was described as a 'deer in the headlights' look all morning, LOL. I hope we will be hearing all that God will be doing through you and your family in the coming months.

    God Bless!

    2. I'm sure that any of the campus pastors would be willing to talk with you. They are all amazing! Is Chad the lead pastor or the youth pastor at the campus?

  5. Prayers for you and your family as you embark on this exciting new adventure. Sounds like your husband is going to be one busy man. As an youth/assistant pastor's wife, I certainly can't imagine someone being both (though I know it definitely can be done). I will pray for strength and energy for you all that the gospel may be spread, souls saved, and glory brought to our wonderful Savior.

  10. I'm so excited for you and the adventure God has called you to! My husband and I have read Crazy Love twice, last time with a small group of high schoolers, and everytime we start getting too comfy, something unexpected happens! Definitely praying for you and your family as you make the adjustment.

  15. Also how about all of our road names having a "Run" in them?? What was up with the namers: did they run every where in Pittsburgh? Not sure how that all started but I am super excited for you and your family and Moon is so close to me I may have to try it out. I love how God surprises us with His plans.

Blessings to all! and praying .....
