before it all goes south again
and stops working completely

but still
i'm thankful to be able to meet with you all
again on this sunny-turned-stormy day
to see what inventive
thoughtful
humorous
ingenious
things

and i got to see a new recipe
for making making light and soft rolls
from margo at joyful homemaking

i can almost smell the yeasty aroma right now

then there's this awesome craft room storage project
shared by chas at one woman's haven

she went from this

the perfect combination of pretty and practical

and how about all these great finds scored by

summer sprucin'

the last few days here
have had just enough warmth and sun
between storms
to give us time to
accomplish some outdoor summer chores

weed pulling
lawn mowing
porch sweeping
furniture hauling

i must admit
after many seasons of use
our lawn furniture is starting to look a little sad

i plan to start scouring the local tag sales
and flea markets
to find some new old things
as soon as possible

but tonight
i decided to resuscitate a $10 tag sale chaise
that has spent the past two seasons reposing in the darkest recesses of our garage

today seemed like a good day
for some gussying

after ripping off  layers of icky fabric

choking on the ensuing the dust cloud

i uncovered the original cushions

i know
you're jealous of the garish print
dirty vinyl
tufts of loose sawdust stuffing seeping out of random holes

try to contain yourself

after hosing down the frame
(the only way i could get all the cobwebs and spiders off
without actually touching them)

i rummaged around in the attic for some fabric remnants that would be
big enough to cover the cushions

and came up with an old sofa cushion cover in white denim
and a vintage tablecloth whose pattern and colors i've always been fond of

disclaimer
this is a temporary fix
until i can find the right fabric
with which to sew real covers

but after pinning everything in place
that old aluminum chaise looks a might prettier

the pillow is made from cloth napkins

now i know my big blue house still needs painted
and there are star wars action figures scattered on the porch

just keeping it real

i do love how the old girl looks all decked out
in red white and blue

the other two entries each have some stars and stripes
of their own

of course
tonight's was just one project
of many on my long list

but it feels good to do a little prettifying

the mulch is hopefully coming soon
but i love my blooming hardy geraniums down in front

and this little guy that i bought on ebay
just got stuck in the ground
and is already showing signs of life

it's a blue nikko hydrangea
which is one particular species of hydrangea
that i've never had much luck with

fingers crossed for some big blooms in the next few seasons

what kind of summer sprucin' have you been up to lately?

fridays unfolded #18

hello my lovelies

can you believe
it's been two whole weeks
since we got together to share?

yes
thanks to some
as yet unspecified
blogger glitch
hitch
or titch

we had to save up all our yummy posts
for this week's edition of
link up every friday!

but #17 was quite a week
with more new friends joining in
excellent posts
great fun

do you remember this bathtastic makeover by
sara at the other end of the candle?
here's a peek at what her bath looked like before
DSCN0354

and after
DSCN0661

i do love a happy ending
and the name of her blog
which comes from the poem i started last week's post with

and then there was this sweet little sign made by
creative carmella at her blog of the same name

it didn't cost her a penny!
even better

marcy from gorgeous blog antique chase
showed off some fabulous flea market finds
which included stamped ironstone

christmas ornaments

and this little filly

i wanna shop with her!

and mainly
since i'm hungry
i just have to share this mini chocolate cheesecake tart
shared by lisa from simply...this. that. and the other!

if you're suffering from the same embarrassing drool issue
that i am
just head on over to find the recipe

cookin'

my life
can often be reduced
to simple equations

today's problem went something like
this

rainy day
plus
friends over for the afternoon
plus
we're bored!

equals

get in the kitchen a make cookies

and incidentally
that's my kinda math

just sayin

we rifled through the cookbooks
to find our favorite family collection

thumbed the splattered and stained pages
on the hunt
for that no-bake recipe everyone loves

rootled through the cupboards
to be sure the necessary ingredients
and tools
were close to hand

needless to say
the boys
(all 5 of them)
were more interested in continuing
their wii lego star wars thingy game
and happily left the actual concocting
to the girls

which suited me just fine

not gonna lie
the thought of 5 boys in my kitchen
with an open flame
gives me the colly wobbles

little miss and her friend 'curly girl'
took turns carefully measuring

at which point i recalled wondering
if they had done the pre bake hand wash

hmm

some questions are best left
unasked
unanswered

goods were added
one by one

mixing
with total concentration

mothers who help scrape out peanut butter
would do well to take care with cameras

is there such a thing as a peanut butter proof camera?
cuz there should be

since this cookie includes oats and peanut butter
it's healthy-ish

right?

nearly there

waiting for them to firm up
took, like

forevah

at least 10 whole minutes

but in the end
there were two very self satisfied girls
as well they should be

because i can personally attest
the cookies were delish

unfortunately

they're bored again
