happy labor day
are you enjoying your day off school and work?
unless you work in the medical field
or emergency services
or the mall
gas stations
energy facilities
etc.
actually
i don't have a clue
why we have labor day
or what it means
but in honor of an extra lazy day
i decided to make a breakfast treat
for the kidlets
a couple of weeks ago on

this doughnut recipe was shared by one shabby chick
and today was the day for me to give it a go
(query: is
'donut'
or
'doughnut'
the correct spelling?)
all right
doughnuts it is
i started by heating about a 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in my skillet
over medium heat
you'll know the oil is ready
when bubbles form around the dough
after it's dropped in
(i tested this with a doughnut hole)
i used the cap of the oil bottle as a punch for the holes
making a perfectly shaped doughnut out of each wal-mart brand
buttermilk biscuit
(not the flaky kind)
dropped a few in the oil
and watched carefully
i learned the hard way
that the dough needs only a minute or two
per side
removed them to blot on paper towels
rolled them in confectioner's sugar
or granulated sugar
and consumed
the kids
and hubs
raved
