painted kichen cabinet

a few weeks ago
i disclosed that i was on the hunt
for a big china cabinet for my kitchen

this is the space
that needed an update

the cabinets were old and rickety
dated

and not designed for the best use of storage space

i found the following inspiration photos on pinterest

and finally unearthed the right cabinet
for the right (cheap) price
on craigslist

$30
image 3

and this past weekend
had the chance to get to work

we tore out the old cabinets
and discovered remnants of the icky old wallpaper
that once covered the entire kitchen

and lots of dust and cobwebs

i cleaned
dusted
vacuumed

then got started on the cabinet

although i would like to have used chalk paint
i wasn't ready to spend the money
and i couldn't find a light enough white in the selection
of colors currently available from annie sloan

so i mixed together my regular white wall paint
with a quart of white gesso
which gave me a thicker consistency
and will

hopefully

wear well

and here's my new
gussied up cabinet

three coats of the paint mix

and one coat of clear wax

 filled with bits and pieces

you can see i just painted the existing hardware

before

and after

i think it's a keeper

  8. Nice job A! I'm impressed! Very nice glass on the cabinet doors too. I like the little detail, especially w the white.
Question, what is chalk paint and why do you like it?
And, when you are for hire, I would love for you to come do my laundry room. I have this wonderful home and spend waaaay too much time in my basement hole of a laundry.
Since the kids have gotten older (me too, ha!) and I spend a lot of time at the barn, I have lost inspiration regarding decorating. I am however getting better at braiding manes :)
    love you guys!
