fridays unfolded #27

i just have one question

why

are there school supplies in the stores
by the second week of july?

why?

and i'm not just asking a casual 'why'

it's more like that scene from
steel magnolias at the graveyard after shelby
gets buried and sally field looks at herself
in her compact and then realizes
that shelby was right that she does have
a football helmet for hair and then she starts wailing

why why whyyyyyyyyyy!

uh huh

that's pretty much what i felt like
when i walked into walmart last week
and was rudely confronted with all those bins
full of crayons, calculators and compasses

but don't worry

i mostly just screamed 'why' inside my own noggin

though i may have scared a couple of folks away
with that crazed look in my eye

but summer is still here
and i am clutching on to it with both sunburned hands
for as long as i can

even if i will have to pay full price for glue and scissors

but enough about my personal issues

last week on
link up every friday!

you all shared some wonderful
recipes
crafts
tips
decorating projects
and just general

yummyness

i was inspired by ana from a petite cottage
who stretched one pretty sheet into
this lovely duvet and pillow

and bag

and sweet little apron

phew
that's a whole lotta thrifty stitchery

on a similar note
amanda from gratefully growing in grace
crafted this beautiful 'quiet book' for her little one

i am amazed at the colorful pictures
detailed stitches
and fun activities herein

what a lovely way for a small child to learn bible stories

daune (pronounced 'dawn') from cottage in the oaks
revamped her formally boring fireplace
from a zero

to an eleven

and that gorgeous antique mantle?

a gift

finally
in honor of

summer

i have
not one
but two

delightful recipes for strawberry shortcake
to share with you

keri from pressed down, shaken together
posted her grandmother's shortcake recipe

and judy from cranberry morning
shared her own decadent dessert

i don't know about you
but my mouth is watering

yum

  10. I so agree with you. I once went into a Williams Sonoma and asked for a manager to say THANKS for being the only store in the huge mall that was actually decorated for Thanksgiving and Fall in the months of November. Every other store was in red and green. It was so refreshing, I had to say thanks.

    Fondly,
    Glenda

  21. TOTALLY agree with you! I mean it is one thing to draw out Christmas in the doldrums of winter, but rushing the good times based on a retail schedule...drives me NUTS! I DO love the 90% sales though to clear the shelves in time for the next holiday :)

  29. I am such an ODDBALL that preparing for school in the summer brings me such happies!! I love stocking up on supplies, and planning the days for the year. I am still waiting for provision for some curriculum. I think I better see this as a "no" and find a plan B!!

  30. Oh I adore that church busy book.

Here in Phoenix the children get out of school the second week in May. Yep, you read that right. So school supplies in July give me hope. School starts here next week. Yippeeeeee!

  31. That is one post packed full of good stuff. Sadly I tell you that their are school supplies in the store already because my son goes back to school next week! It is ridiculous to have school start already.
