my children
love to listen to me tell stories about my childhood
honestly
they seem to think that I was raised during the Dark Ages
or something
to them
living in a world with
no cell phones
no internet
no wii
no cable stations
is not dissimilar to certain forms of torture
but fascinating to hear about
nonetheless
the other evening
we were discussing the inevitable
Christmas Wish Lists
which led to them ask about the sorts of things
i had wished for
all those eons ago
my reply?
three words:
wonder woman underoos
the underwear that's
Fun To Wear!
i dreamed of opening those suckers
on christmas morning
i begged
pleaded
wheeled and dealed
i
wanted
that
fabulous
underwear
they were everywhere
saturday morning commercials
magazine ads
on my friends
(i did have real friends
but the mannequin photo was
the best i could do)
although wonder woman was my pick
there were other awesome roos for girls
even the boys had 'em
of course
for the star wars weirdos afficianados
was c-3p0 a girl?
i'm guessing that $4.99
was a bit pricey
back in the old days
i'm telling you
that right now
this moment
i can still name all the kids in my 4th grade class
(mrs. mcguire)
who had underoos
as for me
i was one happy happy girl
on christmas morning 1979
because
(you guessed it)
under the tree
was a holly-wrapped package of
just for me
which i subsequently wore
everywhere
twirling so much that
i was dizzy 9/10 of my waking hours
in fact
i don't know how my mom was ever able
to get them off me long enough to wash them
cause they were
awesome
i even wore them in the sprinkler
yup
sadly
they never came with
the lasso of truth
or
the bullet-proof bracelets
but still
they were perfect
which roos did you wear?

ReplyDeleteThe only thing that could've been better about those roos would be if they were strapless! Funny. I've been singing the theme song to the show in my head ALL DAY!

ReplyDeleteBeki
lol! Somewhere there is a picture of ME in my underoos too ;) I can't remember exactly which ones...possibly wonder woman.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post and found you at the Homeschool Hop!
Ha! I totally remember these! Alas, I never had a pair . . . What's funny to me is that my girls just love Wonder Woman (we have the old TV series on DVD) and I know they would go nuts to wear her underoos!
ReplyDeleteYES!! I loved me some Wonder Woman Underoos!! I'm so glad you posted this blast from the past. Ya know, come to think of it, I guess I've never really grown out of it. Still to this day my email address is wondergirl1ab (read: wannabe)!
ReplyDeleteAlso, you had commented on my post about Mary Pride. I love her books too!! You should get a copy of The Way Home and read it. It's really great. If your not sure yet, you could read along with my weekly posts and see what you think. They are under Momma School at www.homeschoolingbytheyard.blogspot.com. blessings!
i would have died for the Wonder Woman ones, but I must have been under a rock that year...i don't remember these.
ReplyDeleteMy mom taught me early to ridicule fun things, so I never wanted underoos. To be honest, I didn't think much about what my undies looked like until I was in high school. Like someone was gonna see those.
ReplyDeleteOops. forgot to say "stopping by from SITS."
ReplyDeleteI would have totally rocked these! ;)
ReplyDeleteBest. Post. EVER>
ReplyDeleteUnderoos! I had forgotten all about those! Man! That took me right back, girlfriend! I was a Garanimals kind of girl, myself. Loved matching up those animal tags to find an ensemble that I could flounce around in on the school bus. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, while I adored Wonder Woman, Might Isis was my girl!
I know you wrote this a bit ago, but I just found you and couldn't resist reading this post. Loved my Underoos too! My favorite thing to make was wrist bands to wear with them. I remember getting busted several times putting them on (especially while my grandma was making dinner & was occupied). I think they seriously need to come out with adult sized Underoos so we can feel like Wonder Woman again! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAnd those were the good ole' days. I am borrowing your underoos pic definitely. I wish I have more time to write. I have been engaged to find blogs for diaper coupons. Browsing and crawling the web has given me a very rich experience with the great pictures and the wonderful articles I get to read - accidentally.
ReplyDeleteIn howtomakemoneyblogging, they say that comment posts are essential to get your articles to the top of the search engine results. They also say search engines measure the time a visitor stays at a site. Typing a longer "related" comment like this will hopefully help you up. Cheers.
I was Wonder Woman for Halloween one year! No Underoos, though, just a packaged costume. She's still the coolest female superhero in my book. Great post.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I just stumbled upon your blog, and joined your linky party, and as I was parusing - saw this awesomness on your sidebar!! I LOVED my Wonder Woman Underoos! I too, wore them what I remember as daily. I jumped up down and all around my bunkbeds as Wonder Woman. I made many different bullet proof bracelets, as I wondered why they didn't come with them!!!
ReplyDeleteso good to meet another underoos aficionado
ReplyDeleteand i'm glad you joined fridays unfolded!
alison
LOL! I know this is an older post, but I just found your blog & my, oh, my, Wonder Woman was my favorite & I did have the underroos to prove it! Following your blog now-I'll be sitting back to read more. BTW-I'm also a homeschooling mom!
ReplyDeleteso glad you stopped by shannon!
ReplyDeleteand i'm always happy
to find another Underoos aficionado!
Hey, there! Just found your blog ... love your house! I'm also a big fan of WW underoos ... I was totally hot in mine (as a 5 year old)! :) Just so you know, they do have adult Wonder Woman underoos ... my best bud got some for Christmas a few years ago. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Woman-Cami-Panty-women/dp/B000E61FLS. Enjoy!
